>Potato class

>Spending the next 2 days in the Titan Garden planting our new potato towers with the first graders. This is our first week of the pilot garden program where kids come to the garden every week. They are learning today about where all these vegetables they see in the store come from. Celery is the stem of the plant, apple is the fruit, lettuce is a leaf, carrot is a root, and broccoli is a flower. I told them next time their mom serves them broccoli, they can say, “mom, thanks for the flowers!”

Back to potatoes…potatoes are a part of the stem called a tuber, which is packed full of nutrients. They’ll be watching their potatoes grow over the next few months and practicing their in-class lessons of measuring height and charting measurements over time.
